Dr. Iyabode Deborah Akande is a lecturer in the Department of Arts and Social Science Education in Faculty of Education at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). She got her Ph.D. in Linguistics and African Languages with a bias in Yoruba Literature from Obafemi Awolowo University in 2018. She taught for two decades in secondary schools before she was employed by the Council of OAU in January, 2019. She is a fellow of Ife Institute of Advanced Studies from 2021 till date. Dr. Akande belongs to several professional bodies such as Yoruba Studies’ Association of Nigeria from 2004 till date, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria from 2007 till date and International Association of Language Educators from 2019 till date. She served as a Yoruba resource person to Northern Education Initiative Plus Project organised by USAID between 2020 and 2021. Dr. Akande has made presentations at some professional conferences. She has published some papers in refereed national and international journals. Her latest work titled “Yoruba proverbs as a tool for the teaching of good character to children and youth in Southwestern Nigeria” appeared in the 2022 volume 11 of the prestigious Journal of Yoruba Studies Association of Nigeria. Her papers have focused on Yoruba orature, Yoruba festivals and proverbs.
