Dr. Iyabode Deborah Akande is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Arts and Social Science Education, Faculty of Education at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). She obtained her Ph.D. in Linguistics and African Languages with a bias in Yoruba Literature from OAU in 2018. She taught for two decades in secondary schools before she joined the services of OAU in 2019. She is a fellow of Ife Institute of Advanced Studies from 2021 till date. She is also a Fellow of National African Language Resource Center (NALRC), Indiana University, Bloomington, America. Dr. Akande is a member of several professional bodies such as Yoruba Studies’ Association of Nigeria (YSLA), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and International Association of Language Educators (IALE). She served as a Yoruba resource person to Northern Education Initiative Plus Project organised by USAID between 2020 and 2021. She also served as a Yoruba Language resource person to Universal Basic Education Commission in reviewing Literacy Teaching Learning Materials (TLM) in August, 2025. She participated in the content selection and writing workshop for the review of the Senior Secondary Education Curriculum (SSEC) organised by Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) in October, 2025. Dr. Akande has made presentations at some professional conferences. She has published in reputable national and international outlets. Her research focus mainly on Language pedagogy, Yoruba orature and festivals and Yoruba proverbs.
